Korean Conflict
After World War II Korea was divided into North Korea and South Korea. They were divided along this parallel because of economic difference and political makeup. North Korea was communist and South Korea was capitalism or a democracy. On July 25, 1950, North Korea forces came across the thirty-eighth parallel creating a surprise attack on South Korea.
The Soviet Union supported the North Koreans by giving technological and strategic support. They also provided supplies and other aid for the North Koreans. Some Soviet citizens even served as volunteers in the North Korean Family. The United States aided South Korea.
By September 1950, the North Koreans push was all the way to the perimeter of Pusan. The tide of the war changed by the United Nations going into South Korea to help protect them. The United States troops pushed North Koreans into Pyongyang. China felt threatened and sent 300,000 troops into North Korea.
