Cuba & Communism
In July 1959 Fidel Castro led a revolution in Cuba. He overthrew Fulgencio Batista. The United States did not like the fact that Castro had turned Cuba into a communist nation. In response to that, the United States split up with Cuba and Dwight Eisenhower imposed trade restrictions on Cuba. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba. Its purpose was to attempt to over throw Castro.
There was a Cuba missile crises in July 1962 by the Russian Nikita Khtushchev. The United States discovered these actions by an american U-Z spy plane who secretly photographed nuclear missile sites being built. In response to the discovery, President JFK places a ring of ships around Cuba. For the next several day the world feared a nuclear war. The resolution President JFK and Russian Nikita Khrushchev came to was that the Soviets would dismount the weapon sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba.
