Arms Race
The arms race was a competition between nations for superiority of weapons. The main goal of arms race for both countries was to have more weapons and greater armies. The Manhattan Creation was the code name for the world’s first atomic bomb. The United States dropped the atomic bombs on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 29, 1949, the Soviet Union tested their first atomic bomb. In 1952 the United States developed the first hydrogen bomb. This bomb processed nuclear fusion to create a huge amount of heat and radiation.
Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles or ICBM are used for land based atomic attacks. The Soviet Union was the first country to test ICBM. They testes it on August 9, 1957. The United States developed the Atlas missile in 1957. Atlas is a missile that was converted into an Alas E/F “space boosters” and was used to launch early “Block 1” GPS satellites. The United States also created the Minutemen Missile. Minutemen Missile is a fifty-six foot, three stage missile. It was also the first ICBM to use solid fuel. Minutemen Missile shoots thermonuclear war heads.
Today the United States has 4,804 nuclear bombs. Russia/Soviet Union has 1,512 nuclear bombs.
